Skarper

Emma is also fronting 'Skarper' a high energy 7 piece funk/soul/ska band. The band's influences include: Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Brand New Heavies, Skatalites, Charlie Parker and James Brown.

Skarper are the perfect band for a party, they always create an uplifting atmosphere and have a 100% success rate at getting the crowd dancing and having a great time.

'Skarper' are available to book for gigs, parties, functions etc.

Emma Harris - Lead Vocals

I love singing with Skarper, because every gig is like an on-stage party. Our good times are contagious and it's never long before everyone's up and dancing with us.

Bonuses - I get to belt out classics like: 'Superstition', 'Respect' and 'Lady Marmalade'.

Challenges - the band won't let me play tambourine, but I'm really good, honest!!!

Dave King - Keyboards, Band Leader

Dave spends all his time trying to cram far too much music into one person. He won't admit to disliking any music and he strives to become a jack of all musical trades and master of none - to which end he has worked as a jazz pianist, oboist, classical singer, instrument-maker, record dealer, teacher, theatre MD,arranger, administrator, streetband percussionist, terrible saxplayer, music librarian, choirleader, composer, melodica hero, boring musical knowall, drunken shawm expert and too many other things. Forced to reduce his favourite music to a handful he would choose Michel Petrucciani, Toru Takemitsu, French Art song and Stina Nordenstam.

Steve Hall - Bass

I've been making music in some form or another, since I was a kid, growing up in a house where music played a big part of family life. I played in Folk/accoustic bands while living in Canterbury, and while at college in Brighton played with hard-rock bands 'Meanstreak' and 'Loup Garou.' Since moving to Bath I've played in a whole bunch of bands; 'Nightfall', 'Built for Comfort', 'Fujabluso', 'Five Flights Up', 'Galway Blonde', 'The Electric Lobsters' and others, covering blues, funk, jazz, folk-rock and fusion.

Ian White - Guitar

A familiar face on the south west music scene, Ian has been laying his funky grooves and sweet solos on audiences from Glastonbury to er… Gloucester for years. He’s played in a variety of bands with bad names from Galway Blonde to Blue Dog, Brejeiro and Vamoose.

At the tender age of 16, he fell off the back of a stage at a Christmas dance for the top brass at RAF Lineham, prematurely releasing 1,000 balloons into the auditorium. He still has nightmares.

Kevin Poplett - Alto Sax

Kevin Poplett Photo

Kevin only started playing the sax at 26 while living in Germany, but made up for lost time by getting involved with as many bands as possible: Blues / Rock, Big Bands, Saxophone Quartet, Jazz bands (duo and quartet).

He moved back to England 12 years ago and has carried on in the same vein with a Soul Band, Big Band, Flute Trio, Jazz bands of all shapes and sizes and of course Skarper.

As well as playing and teaching saxophone for a living, Kevin is also into windsurfing and kiteboarding but that's another story...

Simon Sax - Alto Sax

Simon's real surname is not Sax! We've known him for many years, but as yet, we haven't managed to discover his real surname!

If anyone out there recognizes this photo of Simon and thinks they might know his real name, please let us know. Answers on a postcard..

What we do know about Simon is that he's a fantastic Sax player, dynamic, original, funky and a little bit crazy.

Sam Pattemore - Drums

Sam is a very talented drummer and drives the whole band from behind (a back seat driver you could say....)

He plays in numerous band so we do our best to sabotage his other ventures and keep him with us.

Famously quiet and unnasuming personality, but you know what they say, it's always the quiet ones you have to watch out for.
